I feel the album is great and some unique sounds for them (Spectre, and Never the Hero's specifically stand out).

Yes some DNA of their formula....they follow the same "system" for every album, but that is why they are still in the game 50 years later.

My take - their "system" for most albums is:
Speed Metal track
Thrash Metal track
Hard Rock track x 2
Commercial track x 2
Heavy Metal Ballad
Rock Anthem
Priest Monster/Creature track (which may be part of top two above)
One track about Motor cycles/tough guy lifestyle
One track about rock and roll lifestyle

Now not every album follows exactly above, but certainly there is a pattern for he most part.

STILL Love it though!
Firepower is growing on me more after spending this past week with it more. Pretty much enjoying from track 3 through 13. First two songs, to me, are reheated Painkiller stuff. And the Sea of Red falls flat for me. But there's stuff to enjoy in the rest of the tunes. Lyrics are hit and miss, but that's been typical of later Priest.

Cool. Do you ever go to see The Rods during the Cortland summer music series? I've booked them a few times. Great guys.

What i am tired of is everybody sayin its alot like Painkiller!
I like this album way better than Painkiller,i think i am the only Priest fan around that dont care for Painkiller!
I just couldnt get into to it and i didnt like the guitar tone at all!
But this album,i am really enjoying!
ROS for me ended up bein a coaster for me wine glass !Ha Ha!
Defenders Of The Faith will always be the number 1 Priest album for me!

No, we missed them the last time they played. Unfortunately, I have sat through some questionable bands though. But it's free, so you can't complain. Bonfire played in Ithaca a couple years back and they were terrific. Now they play mostly up near Rochester.

i haven't enjoyed a new Judas Priest album this much since i first heard Defenders Of The Faith!
I have listen to Firepower 5 times in the last 24 hours and i can't find one track that i don't like!
I enjoy them all!
Gotta make a copy for the car to listen to while heading to and from work!
It is a very good album, right up there with Defenders and Screaming!
Cheers!

I have to agree. I honestly have traveled across the USA for business the last two weeks and on flights and working out have listened to it at least 15 times (no joke) - I really like it.

for me ONLY Lone Wolf is a track sometimes I skip

LOVE Spectre

Lone Wolf has become one of my favorites, very bluesy, old school. Children of the Sun is like that too. Like I said, I'm now really enjoying from Evil Never Dies to Lone Wolf. Firepower itself is OK, I guess. I can take it or leave it. Lightning Strike is just, for me, once again a reheating of Hell Patrol, much like the Redeemer title track. They go to that well a lot. But the album comes into it's own at Evil Never Dies onward. Rising from Ruins has really started to grow on me too. Other favorites I guess so far would be Necromancer, Flamethrower (pretty great musically, pretty cheesy lyrically), and Traitors Gate. Just wishing they ended the album with something other than Sea of Red. Sea of Red is a clunker, not a good finisher. They killed the ends of AOR and Redeemer like that too.
